MANDATORY PROCEDURES FOLLOWING A POSITIVE SUBSTANCE ABUSE TEST
1. Donor is immediately removed from safety sensitive functions.
2. Donor must see a substance abuse professional
(SAP) for an evaluation.
3.
Donor must undergo and complete any treatment program that is recommended by the SAP.
4. Donor must have a verified negative Return to Duty drug screen, prior to returning
to safety sensitive functions.

SAP is required by Federal REgulation to assign at least 6 and as many as 12, unannouced follow-up drug screen in the next
12 months. These are in addition to any times the donor is selected for random drug testing.
6. If the donor fails another drug screen during the next 12 months, the SAP may
extend the follow-up testing for 60 months.
7. The SAP or his affiliated clinic or hospital is prohibited from doing any of the drug screening. This is viewed
as a conflict of interest.
